Auto Racing Essentials are things you need to know in order to follow the sport! Once you are armed with this information, you will be come a racing expert!

Auto Racing Essentials are the basic tools one needs to understand the sport and to be able to carry on a discussion about it without sounding like a complete idiot. You know the type,. "Yeah, I saw that race. What I couldn't figure out was why the guy who was in front didn't win the race." Obviously, that guy was a lap down, but not everyone knows what that means. This section is designed to give you the basic information about all types of racing so you'll know what it's all about.

Some things you need to know.

1. Never say a car number without knowing who drives it. That really irritates true race fans! They can spot a race fan fraud at over a mile away! Remember that if you ever feel compelled to join a discussion about racing and you know you don't know what you are talking about.

2. You must know how to keep track of the racing action in order to understand where a particular driver fits into the field.

3. Never say that a driver made a mistake, you never know who is within earshot of you and they might be one of the driver's diehard fans. "Tony Stewart moved down and clipped the 07 car on purpose!" then you look up and see a big burly guy with tattoos who is obviously angry coming straight at you from the other side of the room. Fans have fought over less than this!

4. Don't inadvertently call tire smoke a blown engine! To the pro fans, the color, the density, and the smell of the smoke from a tire rubbing the fender is distinctly different from that of a blown engine. Stick around a few races first, you'll get the hang of it.

5. Know that everyone, except my brother, hates Jeff Gordon! It's because he is a Yankee and he enunciates according to Jeff Foxworthy.

6. Remember, no race is a bad race! Two days in the rain and cold trying to stay dry and warm on your metal seat while watching the wrecker and jet dryer races is better than any day at work.

7. There are no true "Non Alcoholic" grand stand sections, just beer drinkers who were drunk when they bought their tickets for that section. Don't take your kids or your significant other if they have never been around people who drink or if you don't want them to see plenty of naked bellies, boobs, and butt cracks on both men and women in the stands.

8. Don't ever wear last year's race fashions if they are outdated. Jr. has moved now to the #88 and won't be in the red Budweiser car anymore, but you'll see people still wearing his old stuff. This is a race fan social mistake that you don't want to be a part of. Old drunks at the race track handing you some of their picked up beer cans so you can get enough money to buy you a new shirt. I've seen it and it's not funny!

9. No matter when a race was ran, won, or whatever, remember, for some reason or another, you have to refer to it as the Sprint Cup! Yes, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. both won Sprint Cup Championships. Read this article and you'll understand. Call it what it is or was, as the case my be.
